阿莱克斯是八十年代后期过气的流行音乐歌手，他在乡村市集以及音乐娱乐公园举行怀旧巡回演唱的机会逐渐递减。而当流行天后卡罗柯曼邀他写歌，并且和他一起二重唱灌唱片，富有魅力且才气十足的他终于得到机会重返歌坛。但是阿莱克斯却碰到创作瓶颈，他已经多年没有进行作曲，而且从来没有作词的经验。现在却必须在短短几天内写出一首畅销曲。
苏菲是一位古灵精怪的女子，对字句拥有相当敏锐的感觉力，与努力不懈的流行歌曲家阿莱克斯的邂逅拨动了她的心弦，回想过去那一段失败的感情，苏菲不再愿意相信感情，更害怕给予阿莱克斯承诺。当阿莱克斯与苏菲的情感因钢琴而逐渐加温，而如果他们也想要拥有他们的真爱与成就，则必须一起共同面对他们所畏惧的……
一个过气歌手，得到一个为当红年轻歌手，写歌的机会。这对他是重要的。他遇到了一个神经质的园艺师，给了他歌词的灵感。于是他们共同创作了这首《Way Back Into Love》。他们也再次找到了他们的爱情。
